We are first time boat buyers in Northern California, are very detailed and expect Nordstrom quality service. We traveled to many boat shows, getting familiar with many makes, models and their fit and finishes. As you can imagine, we met many brokers as well.
We met Barbara at one of these Boat shows where she just really connected with us, and quickly distanced herself from many other brokers we'd met. She shared her knowledge and experience and quickly educated us on the market, yacht models to consider, and the tradeoffs. During the entire process, she listened to what we were looking for, asked relevant questions and used her expertise to advise us accordingly. She was on top of every inquiry we had, paid attention to detail and although Barbara lives in Southern California was able find the perfect boat for us in Galveston TX. She literally held our hands through the whole purchasing process which made this a very positive and educational process for us.
We are incredibly happy with our purchase and highly recommend her to anyone in need of a boat broker.

I want to take a minute to say thanks to all the folks at Rick Obey & Associates.
I attended a Newport Boat Show and ran into Barbara Kaufman and she offered to help me find my next boat. She was aggressive and I liked that. A few weeks later my boat, listed with another, sold.
After an online search I found a boat in Florida that was perfect for Ruby and me. I remembered Barbara telling me that she has had several boats shipped from Florida to California so I contacted her.
Everything worked like magic from then on. We struck a great deal on the boat contingent on my inspection. It happened that Ruby and I were in the process of Closing on a home in Vegas at the same time my boat sold so we needed a lot of help. After flying to Florida and inspecting the boat we finalized a deal the day we arrived. It was a cash deal so I was very anxious to close fast. Two and a half days later (WOW) all documents were signed and I was on the boat. Saving me over a thousand dollars in motel fees. Amazing! I want to give a special thanks to Barbara, Ashley, Kim and others at Rick Obey & Associates for their over the top efforts in helping me with boat purchase.

My Experience with Yolanda of Rick Obey & Associates
"I was introduced to Yolanda Phinney at Rick Obey as a yacht broker to help me find the right boat I desired. Yolanda asked me what my budget was and what the purpose of this boat was. After we discussed what boat I was looking for, my budget, the type of engines, the size etc. she said; I will send you some by tonight. Later that evening, emails came pouring in on different models and sizes, engine types and all were in or close to my budget.
As I went through a lot of them I became picky as I wanted this boat to be the best and one that I would be happy with for the rest of my days owning it. Yolanda and I were in constant communication about the boats she sent me and others she was looking at to send me. At one time there were so many choices I literally stayed up all night going through details, images, research and narrowed my findings to a few of the choices. By the next day, more boats came in. I had to once again dissect all emails to choose which would be the better boat for my purposes.
Once I picked what I thought would be the best boat, I discussed with my mechanic all about the engines. If he wasn’t happy with them, I was not getting the boat. After this one particular boat Yolanda found, I liked and my mechanic loved that particular engine, I went ahead with getting more info on it. Yolanda was great; she gave me all the information I needed and wanted on this particular boat. She then told me she would drive down to see the boat first hand and contact me when she is there so we can video chat and I can see the boat as she walks around. I felt bad because I knew her drive would be two hours or more one way just to go and see this boat. But she did it and this made me realize how she went out of her way to make sure that I, as her customer was to be a happy customer. After viewing the boat through video chat I was quite pleased. We did the necessary paperwork and began the process of moving forward in a purchasing direction. I made arrangements to fly myself and my mechanic over to see the boat. During this time, Yolanda had already started preparing documents, talking with others who would be included in a successful sale, getting the right information across to everyone. This seemed to be a lot of leg work and seemed to be another day at the office for Yolanda.
Once I got there, Yolanda made sure I had a rental car and hotel rooms at the best prices she could find. Once again, she went out of her way to accommodate my needs. We went to the boat and did a survey on it, got to know the boat a little and once this was all completed we did a sea trial with Yolanda right by my side. After Sea trial we went to the haul out slip and had the boat hauled to inspect the bottom, again she was right by my side. On this particular day, Yolanda dedicated over 13 hours to me physically. I was amazed at what she did. I spoke to her about changing the name on the boat, she said, “I’m on it” within minutes she had a quote back to me to get this done. I agreed to purchase this boat. Yolanda went home that night driving for hours once again and started fresh early the next day with all my paperwork needed to have a successful transfer of ownership. Within a day I was the new owner of a beautiful Sea Ray. Because I was not use to the waters around there, I asked her where the nearest fuel dock was, she helped me out with this information. I met up with Yolanda that evening to sign the remaining documents as well as get all my new owners documents. I then left to prepare the boat for departure to her new home. The next morning I was at the boat early and ready to go get fuel and depart for my next port. The boat ran great the entire time. I am grateful.
Yolanda’s customer service, to me is one that you rarely see in this day and time anymore; she was literally a one stop shop. I feel Yolanda “bent over backwards” for me, I am amazed at her knowledge in and around the entire marine department I do not think I could have had a better Yacht broker. I have not only accepted her as a Broker, but also as a friend. If there is anything you would need whether searching for a boat, boats parts, and cosmetic whatever to do with boats, Yolanda has the knowledge, and if she does not know she will either research it, or contact someone who does know.
